January 5th, 2014 marked the Navathi (90th) celebration of founder secretary Sri. A.K. Gopalan fondly called AKG, an exemplary visionary and educationist. Asan Memorial Association Chennai, founded in the year 1965 under the stewardship of this great visionary has done real proud to the memory of Mahakavi Kumaran Asan, a great Teacher, by establishing and successfully running several high quality educational institutions that cater to the basic, vocational and higher educational needs of the children of malayalees and non-malayalees in the city of Chennai. The quest which began in the year 1966 continued relentlessly adding fresh ones seeking the nice areas in the field of modern educational systems and is still on the move. This vibrant and methodical association's contributions in the socio cultural field also are widely acknowledged.


The function "A K G Navathi Celebration", was organized by Chennai Malayalees in honor of Sri AKG at Sri Mutha Venkatasubba Rao Concert Hall; Chennai in recognition for his decades of outstanding achievements and for providing relentless service in the field of Education. Many Eminent personalities from different spheres of life like Politics, Poets, Media, Social Thinkers, Educationalists, Industrialists, other Social and Cultural contributors, felicitated, shared their long time association and paid their tributes to Shri AKG who dedicated his life towards the promotion of Education, Social Values and the betterment of the Society on the day. The day long celebrations started with a Seminar on 'Social Values and Identity Crisis in Today's Political and Cultural Scenario', a documentary on the life and times of Shri. AKG and ended with a Musical 'Karuna' which was based on the works of Mahakavi Kumaran Asan.
